Psalms for the New Recession
I saw a homeless man today.
He couldn't have cared less
about the Wall Street plunge,
interest rates,
the deficit,
or the price of petrol.
He just wanted a warm meal.
I saw a single mom today.
She couldn't have cared less
about her young children;
if they were fed,
if they felt loved,
or if they had clean clothes.
She just wanted a good rock.
I saw a young couple today.
They couldn't have cared less
about their mortgages,
the homeless man,
the single mom,
or the rest of the world.
They just wanted each other.
I saw many people today.
No one could have cared less
about other people,
the polar caps,
starving children,
or either end of the Earth~
They turned their heads to look away.
Narcisstic lyrics for today--
these Psalms for the new recession.

Cul-de-sac
I pulled up into the cul-de-sac.
I was on the wrong side of the track.
Money makes her world go 'round and 'round--
no time for a loser going down.
I knew right off I was out of place--
a fish out of water; hard to face,
but someone has to feed the raptor--
same paragraph; different chapter.
I wondered if I did alright--
ears burning as I drove out of sight.
My little girl, he's not good enough!
She replied, I'll get rid of him, Dad, hush!
I pulled away from that cul-de-sac.
Spent all I had; there was no going back.
Money makes this world go 'round and 'round.
Tough being from the wrong side of town.
